UMC
The Annual UMC, (established as an Urban Male Conference in 2010 by PBX and the Manhattan College Now Director's at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Baruch College, Hunter College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the City College of New York) , highlight an important aspect of student life on college campuses- Community and Social Activism. The events promote the dual enrollment and pre-college opportunities for New York City public high school students, while inspiring them to be engaging and active in their communities and society as a whole.
As students approach voting age, the role of civic and community engagement occupies an increasingly important part of their lives. College campuses encourage, support and embrace this critical phase of a young adults development in many ways; From community service learning opportunities, to a diverse range of student organizations; from open campus discussion forums, to student led government, campus life, both inside and outside the classroom, invites students to engage as both civic and community members.
The UMC allows students to engage with one another, current college students, professionals and community stakeholders throughout the day in a motivating, collective setting, as well as smaller, more intimate 'pull-out' workshops.
